So Gay 5K 2021

Durham, NC

The So Gay 5K 2021 virtual race is a fundraising event held by and for iNSIDEoUT180, a youth-led organization that hosts community events for LGBTQ+ youth. We provide resources, opportunities for leadership, and safe, affirming spaces for queer youth. The So Gay 5K 2021 virtual race will be held the entire month of April, and is available to complete, at your convenience, in your own gayborhood, anywhere in the world. 100% of proceeds will go directly to iNSIDEoUT180. All race participants will receive a youth-designed sticker commemorating your participation in this amazing event, mailed out after the end of the event on April 30, 2021. Random prize winners will be selected from among the entire pool of participants, regardless of completion time. Awards will also be given to fastest adult completion times, fastest youth completion times and a heart and soul award will go to the participant with the longest moving time (no leaving the app running while you take a nap!) Sign up and have a blast with your friends, or get your friends and family to sponsor your participation! A special prize will be awarded to the individual who raises the most support for their personal race. The ItsYourRace app is free to download and will track your time and post to a virtual leaderboard. Get out and about in a Covid-safe way by walking, running or rolling this virtual race with iNSIDEoUT180! *Please note, race must be completed on foot, or with an assistive device, such as a wheelchair, not by bicycle*

1. GET THE IYR VIRTUAL APP
Download the App called “IYR VIRTUAL” on your phone.  IYR has several apps, so be sure to download the one called IYR VIRTUAL. Once you open the App, you will be asked for your name and email address to find your registration record.  You will need to use the email address associated with your registration profile. If someone else’s email address was used for your registration profile, you will need to use that email.

2. COMPLETE YOUR RACE – Run, walk or roll your 5K (3.1 miles) at any time and anywhere between April 1 - April 30, 2021. Can't do it all at once, no problem! Feel free to stop and restart your race as many times as your need to, even over multiple days. The distance you have travelled is cumulative. Just make sure you have completed the whole 5K by April 30th, 2021.

3. SUBMIT YOUR TIME (read before you run)
Use the IYR Virtual App, and let it record your finish time. The App will track your distance, tell you when you finish the race, and automatically upload your finish time to the race results.
1) When you’re ready to go, open the IYR Virtual App using the email address associated with your registration record.
2) Search for the name of the race.
3) Click on “Tracker” and then on “Ready for My Race”
4) You will be prompted to enable Background Location in your Settings.  Make sure this background setting is set to ALWAYS, and NOT Only When Using.  The ALWAYS setting ensures that if the phone goes to sleep, or you play music, the App will still track your run.  Following your race, simply go to Settings, find IYR Virtual, and turn off Background Location.

4. CHECK YOUR RESULTS AND GET YOUR FINISHER CERTIFICATE

  • Go to ITS YOUR RACE.com, search for your event and go to the RESULTS PAGE.
  • Select the distance that you ran or walked from RACE dropdown
  • Search for your name and click on your participant listing
